5 Must Reads, Female Apple Camp, Managing Business During The Holidays

Five Books for the Aspiring Entrepreneurs on your list

Entrepreneurialism is having a serious moment right now, so we’re willing to bet there’s at least one entrepreneur in the making on your holiday gift list this year. If you know anyone looking to build a successful business in 2019, this list is for you.

  1. The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich by Timothy Ferriss

This book proves that you can turn an 80 hour work week into just 4 hours — and achieve the same results. If you’re struggling with time management, this book will show you how to work more efficiently so you can live life to the fullest and spend fewer hours working.

  2. Man Up: How to Cut the Bull**** and Kick A** in Business (and in Life) by Bedros Keuilian

This book is a wakeup call for those who treat their business goals as mere hobbies. It will show you exactly how to stop making excuses and put in the work it takes to succeed… even when you can’t find the motivation to do so.

  3. The Essays of Warren Buffett: Lessons for Corporate America by Warren E. Buffett and Lawrence A. Cunningham

This is a compilation of Buffett’s most valuable writings on the fundamentals of business practices. Think of this book as a shortcut to success.

  4. How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie

This book is all about the art of persuasion in business and what it takes to build strong, long-lasting relationships with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders. Don’t underestimate the power of solid business relationships.

  5. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life by Mark Manson

The message here is that most things in life don’t really matter — and if they do, it’s only because we give them importance. This book will teach you how to let go of the small stuff and focus on the things that will really move the needle.

Apple Starts Entrepreneur Camp for Female App Developers

Apple is now accepting applications for the first session of its new Entrepreneur Camp to be held at its Cupertino, CA headquarters in January. The program will help women by offering an intensive coding lab, specialized support and ongoing mentoring.

“This is really the first of its kind, one-on-one, code-level camp for women… to fast-track app development,” said Esther Hare, Apple senior director of worldwide developer marketing and executive sponsor of Women @ Apple.

“We want to help female founders and co-founders… have access to Apple engineers and executives they’d never have access to otherwise,” Hare said. “And [we want to] go really deep on code.”

Eligible companies must be founded, co-founded, or led by a woman — including transgender women — and must have at least one woman on the development team. The company must also have a working app or prototype.

“It’s really important to us that we keep women in tech once we get them,” Hare said. “This goes a long way to showing this is important to us, and we’re doing something about it.”

The Secret Trick Smart Entrepreneurs are using to Take a Break During the Holidays

For entrepreneurs, taking time off during the holidays can be a challenge. Many have (unintentionally) become slaves to their businesses because they haven’t created “freedom recipes,” or standard operating procedures (SOPs), for the work they do. Which means that if they stop working, their businesses stop, too.

But! It doesn’t have to be that way.

Smart entrepreneurs know that putting SOPs in place, along with hiring a great team to implement them, is the secret to taking some (much needed) time off during the holidays.

In addition to having the right people in place, it’s important to set expectations for the holiday season. Rotate team members based on their family schedules, be flexible, and even allow people to work remotely.

Give yourself the gift of freedom this holiday season. Create SOPs to optimize your business so things can run smoothly without you.

Bonus: many of the business functions you cover in your SOPs can be implemented year round (not just during the holidays). Cheers to that!
